Hi Vasundhara,
The problem is that all the other so-called "junior" mining companies like the ones you've named, have very small operations and the mines or alluvial deposits they work produce very little. With everything put together, there's still a massive shortage of rough diamonds as consumer demand has been growing in leaps and bounds. The growth in the diamond industry has been mainly inflationary -- prices have increased and not volumes. The situation is unlikely to improve until someone finds a big mine somewhere.

Hi,

There seem to be companies other than De Beers with a sizable stake in the diamond mining segement including Odebrecht (Catoca diamond mine), Trans Hex(Luarica diamond mine,Fucauma diamond mine-Angola),Energem Inc.(Tongo Diamond Fields-Sierra Leone)etc. These companies have diversified operations in a number of counteries ranging from Africa to Indonesia to Brazil. Some of these companies are also working in close patnership with giants like De Beers , BHP etc.

Is there some reason why rough diamond traders and polished manufacturers are not looking at these companies as a another source of rough diamond??

Thanks
